National seminar on 'Bioeconomy from Bioresource held

Dr Gokhale released a booklet on ‘Biotechnology support in the North Eastern Region’

Institute of Bioresource and Sustainable Development (IBSD), department of Biotechnology, Ministry of Science and Technology on Friday organised a National Seminar on ‘Bioeconomy from Bioresource with special reference to Northeastern Region of India’.

A release by IBSD stated that IBSD is organising a series of programmes for the development of bioresources of North Eastern Region to promote in different contexts, under the leadership of IBSD Imphal director Pulok K Mukherjee. IBSD is organising such programmes to commemorate the 75 years of Independence as a part of the ‘Azadi Ka Amrit Mahotsav’, it stated.

Inaugurating the programme, secretary of department of Biotechnology, Ministry of Science and Technology, New Delhi Rajesh S Gokhale said the various bioresources available in Northeastern Region of India should be utilized to maximum capacity to benefit the local people of this region and develop the economy, it added.

On the occasion, Dr Gokhale released a booklet on ‘Biotechnology support in the North Eastern Region’, it continued.

The programme was attended by students and scientists of IBSD, progressive farmers from different villages who discussed their ideas about importance of local bioresources, and experts including Jubilee Purkayastha, P Albino Kumar, Rajkumar Tomba, Amitabha Bandyopadhyay, L Dinachandra Singh, L Nabachandra Singh and Kh Ibohal Singh who shared their ideas about bioeconomy from bioresources, it further stated.

Speaking on the occasion, commissioner cum secretary of Science and Technology, Tourism/ Textiles, Commerce and Industries/Planning IAS Devesh Deval highlighted the efforts of IBSD in the development of bioresources in the state to boost the economy and tourism in the region.
