With the mission to support the career of the amateur MMA (Mix Martial Arts) players, a National MMA Championship “Chainaba MFL-5 (The Cage Fight)” was organised on Saturday at Nongmeibung Multipurpose Hall in Imphal East.
Altogether 85 fighters, including six female and 25 from outside the state such as Mumbai, Delhi, Bihar, Uttar Pradesh, Meghalaya and Assam took part in the Chainaba which was organised under the supervision of the Mix Martial Arts Federation of India.
Speaking to the media, convenor of Chainaba, Nandeibam Frank Mangang said that the competition is being organised to give opportunity to the young fighters who are from the financially weaker section.
Observing discipline and potential, some fighters will be selected during the competition and will be given the opportunity of free-of-cost lifetime guidance and training, he said adding, “The selection will not depend on winning or losing. Winning is not important, what is important is discipline and potential.”
As MMA is very much apt with the people of Manipur, many players had turned towards pursuing their career as an MMA fighter, he said, adding many more successful MMA players like Roshan Meinam, the champion of ONE Championship, will surely succeed from the state.
He also informed me that MMA also helps in changing the personality of the person in a positive direction, Frank Mangang said.
