National Endangered Species Day 2022 observed in Manipur

A state level exhibition on ‘endangered species of Manipur and its conservation’ was held, during which students from different schools prepared presentations of models, specimens, maps and data on the importance and procedures of protection of the endangered species of Manipur.

Manipur joined the rest of the world in observing National Endangered Species Day 2022 with Environment Club, YK College Wangjing organising a programme at the multipurpose hall of YK College in the presence of Wangjing Tentha MLA as chief guest on Friday.

The event commenced with the assistant professor of department of Environment, YK College N Sovarani’s keynote speech. Highlighting the importance of the National Endangered Species Day observation, she said that the observation was created to spread awareness of the fragile existence of the endangered species.

He laid stress on the importance of the conserving endangered species of plants, animals, birds and insects in maintaining the ecological balance. She added that the main objective of the observation is to give awareness to the younger generations and society on the protection of endemic and endangered species of Manipur.

The event was attended by MLA of Wangjing Tentha assembly constituency Paonam Brojen as the chief guest and YK College, Wangjing as the president along with professor of department of Zoology Th Binoy as the guest of honour.

Speaking on the occasion, MLA Paonam Brojen encouraged the students to take initiative in protection of endangered species for the betterment of the future generation. “We should help people in learning more about the current environmental issues,” he said.
