CAFPD director Robertson Asem has sought the support of the state media in educating the consumers about their rights guaranteed by the Indian Constitution.
Delivering his speech during the celebration of "National Consumer Rights Day 2022" at State Guest House in Imphal, the director said that as every individual is a consumer in one aspect or another, it is a must for everyone to know Consumer Rights.
He said considering the media campaign and marketing strategy practiced by companies to impress the consumers about their products in this globalised society, one must stay aware, alert and cautious from such tactics played by companies.
Stressing the need of forming a habit of checking the manufacturing and expiry date besides the new weight before buying a product, he said that the consumers should immediately inform the media or authorities concerned if they found any suspicious fraud in the product.
The person can also use the platform of social media to expose the company or shop, he said, citing an incident of initiating legal action against a petrol pump after being uploaded in social media regarding a malpractice.
Talking about the efforts of the state government to protect the consumers rights, he informed that the Legal Metrology Department popularly known as Weight and Measure Department, despite having inadequate staff, has been taking up routine drive along the Khwairamband bazar while the Price Fixation Committee regularly conducts surprise inspection in Imphal area.
Former president of District Consumer Disputes Redressal Commission (DCDRC), Imphal and Thoubal Ch Narendra spoke on the theme of the celebration, “Effective disposal of cases in Consumer Commissions".
The celebration organised by the People Advancement Centre (PAC) under the sponsorship of CAF and PD Department concluded with a short play cinema on Consumer.
It was also attended by DCDRC Thoubal president RK Sumitra; DCDRC, Bishnupur president Y Lokendro Singh; CAFPD official Sanatombi Bachaspatimayum as guests of honour while DCDRC, Imphal president K Rabei Singh presided over the function.
