Naga villages in new districts alienated: MLA Leishiyo

Leishiyo Keishing said many of villages situated at foothills were carved out and randomly taken under new district jurisdictions.

MLA Leishiyo Keishing of Phungyar Assembly Constituency, while talking to the media on the sideline of Independence Day 2024 celebration, said reorganisation of district jurisdictions and boundaries in Manipur has become imminent for Naga villagers as it was not done in line with the memorandum of understandings they had with the state government.

Leishiyo Keishing said many of villages situated at foothills were carved out and randomly taken under new district jurisdictions.

However, many of these Naga villages have very little affinity towards the newly created districts, he said, adding that these villages are encountering a number of grievances now.

He said these villages are so alienated with the new district headquarters that they are encountering a number issues in availing government facilities. Naga villages are so alienated that even for taking help for police related matters have become a hindrance to them. He said the district administration is not all helpful to villagers either.
