Two Naga MLAs and a minister on Wednesday made a strong appeal to the public to refrain from violence and resolve issues in an amicable manner, regarding the violence which left three dead and several injured following a land dispute in Ukhrul district, Manipur.
A joint statement addressed to the residents of Hungpung village and Hunphun village by Phungyar assembly constituency MLA Leishiyo Keishing, Transport Minister Khashim Vashum and Ukhrul assembly constituency MLA Ram Muivah appealed to all to step back from the brink of further escalation.
“For the sake of our children, our elders, and the generations yet to come, let us choose peace and restrain violence and find a way to resolve the issue amicably through dialogue,” it stated.
Conveying condolences to the bereaved families, it urged the public to “let compassion and reason guide us, not fury. We are the custodians of our future, and that future must be one where peace reigns.”
“Our villages, bound together by blood, history and love, must not be torn apart by the fires of violence and anger. We are not just neighbours; we are family. Our ancestors walked these same paths, shared their dreams, their hardships, and their joy,” it stated.
“Let us not allow this moment to shatter what generations have built. No victory can be found in the pain of our brothers and sisters. Let us pause, reflect, and remember that our strength lies in unity, not division. Every heart that bleeds today is a wound on our shared soul,” it added.
