Manipur Health and Family Welfare Minister Dr Sapam Ranjan Singh on Friday suggested that any health-related observance ceremony should also be conducted even at the peripheral areas instead of just confining to urban areas so as to spread awareness in every nook and corner of the state.

He stated this during the observance ceremony of “Global Iodine Deficiency Disorder Prevention Day” at IMA Hall, Lamphelpat on Friday. The programme was organised by directorate of Health Services Manipur and State Health Society, National Health Mission (NHM), Manipur.

Addressing the function as chief guest, Dr Sapam Ranjan Singh said that various health-related observance ceremonies are organised every month with an objective to create massive awareness on diseases. But there is no point of observing such days if the message is unable to reach people in peripheral areas, he said.

He further said that a meeting would be held soon with state nodal officers holding the charges of national health programmes to identify district-wise prevalence rate of any diseases. Any health-related observance ceremony should be held in the place where the prevalence rate of that particular disease is high, he suggested.

In order to promote healthy society, there is a need to reach every healthcare service at grass root level, he added.

Other dignitaries attended in the function were director of Health Services Manipur, Dr Sasheekumar Mangang; state mission director of NHM Manipur, Dr Somorjit Ningombam and senior regional director of Health and Family Welfare, Dr Lourembam Ashananda as president and guests of honour respectively.
