Much to the relief of several cop aspirants in Manipur, in a late night development Friday, the state government declared the long-awaited 10th and 11th Indian Reserve Battalion (IRB) recruitment examination results.
The Director General of Police, Manipur issued a notification on Friday, announcing the list of 1,830 candidates "selected for appointment in order of merit as Rifleman in Manipur Police Department subject to police verification and medical examination reports".
Hundreds of candidates were seen waiting out on the road late into midnight for the declaration of the results late Friday. It was an unprecedented scene.
As per the notification, the selected candidates have been asked to report to the IGP (Adm) at 1st MR for collection of police verification form from October 20 to 22, and submit the same along with relevant documents on or before October 28 during the working hours.
The newly recruited IRB personnel will be used as highway protection force once their training is completed, the chief minister said in June. The IRB Recruitment result was to be declared in June, but was stalled.
The stalled recruitment process for the 10th and 11th IRB Rifleman and Jemadar, which began in January 2019, rendered as many as 7,165 youths jobless for the last three years.
The Written Test Examination for recruitment of 10th and 11th IRB Riflemen was held on January 20, 2020 at Main Stadium Khuman Lampak, Imphal. As many as 6,750 candidates were selected in the written test and had given their viva voce examination. The viva voce for the 415 candidates selected in the written test for the Jemadar post is yet to be conducted.
The Manipur government on October 26, 2018 issued an order for direct recruitment of 1,350 posts of Rifleman for 10th and 11th IRBNs and 480 additional posts of rifleman (MR/IRB) in Manipur Police department.
