Mrs IAWA India 2022 First Runner Up seeks government's support to young beauty pageants

First Runner Up of Mrs Innovative Artist Welfare Association (IAWA) India 2022, RK ongbi Memmi Thiyam from Manipur has drawn the government's attention to appreciate and support youngsters who brought fame for Manipur in various beauty pageants.

Speaking during her crowning ceremony held on Wednesday at Hotel Classic in Imphal West, Memmi alleged the state government of neglecting the field of beauty pageant which falls under the category of performing arts.

Thirty-six-year-old mother of three, Memmi was the lone representative from Manipur in the Mrs IAWA India 2022 held virtually on January 10. She bagged the titles of First Runner Up and Best Walk.

Pointing out that many famous women icons of India such as Aishwarya Rai, Priyanka Chopra started their career from beauty pageant, she sought the attention of the government to appreciate and support the youngsters who had brought fame for Manipur in various beauty pageants.

“For me beauty pageants are not just about glamour and beauty. It is about being a role model in shaping a better society,” Memmi added.

Hailing from Thangmeiband Polem Leikai, Imphal West, Memmi is working as a graduate teacher at Franchise School. Memmi also earned the title of First Runners Up of Winter Queen Contest 2002 and First Runners Up in Miss Kut 2003.

Country head of IAWA India Beauty Pageant Bhomechand Khaba in his speech said, "Beauty pageant is not just the glamour of fashion show, it embraces individual from all age groups and genders, inculcate trainings, soft skill enhancement and value addition throughout the journey for all who want to make a difference in the society and be a mentor to those around them".

The beauty pageant aims to spread the message and awareness on women empowerment, gender discrimination, domestic violence, save environment and other, he said, adding this year the theme is, “prevention is better than cure for breast cancer and cervical cancer.”

The function was also attended by state icon of Election Commission of India Adaphro Sylvia, Family Welfare Department actress L Suniti Devi and film maker L Surjakanta Sharma as special guests.

Above 2,500 participants made their entry in the Mrs IAWA India 2022. Of it, 30 models were selected in the grand finale.
