The Manipur Peoples’ Party (MPP) on Saturday issued a strong condemnation of both the state and central government’s failure to take decisive action following the recent killings of six women and children, allegedly at the hands of Kuki militants.
The incident, which has sent shockwaves across the region, reportedly occurred after the victims had been taken captive by the militants.
Speaking to the media at its office in Imphal, MPP president S Brojen denounced the killings as a severe violation of international law and called for a swift and robust military response to neutralize the Kuki militants, who, according to the MPP, are “foreign infiltrators” posing a direct threat to the region’s security and sovereignty.
Brojen’s words also reflect the growing frustration among local political groups and the general public, who have seen little tangible action from both the state and central governments in addressing the ongoing crisis.
The MPP leader questioned the motives behind the government’s apparent inaction, suggesting that the prolonged violence, which has now stretched for over 18 months, amounts to a form of “public torment.”
He urged both the state government and the central authorities to reconsider their approach and immediately implement measures that would restore peace and security in the state.
