A grand reception programme for Rajya Sabha MP Maharaja Eningthou Leishemba Sanajaoba was held at Indoor Stadium, Tamenglong HQ, during his one-day visit to the district on Friday.
Speaking on the occasion, Rajya Sabha MP Sanajaoba said he had visited Tharon cave which his grandfather Maharaja Bodhachandra had also visited and erected a memorial stone. He paid floral tribute in memory of his grandparent legacy and thanked the villagers of Tharon for preserving the ancient cultural heritage.
He said Tamenglong district is blessed with beautiful nature. However, there is no good leader in Tamenglong on seeing the road conditions, he said.
The MP said that when MLAs are elected, they stay and spend most of their time in Imphal and complain a majority of the funds are given to Imphal. This should stop and when they are elected as people’s representatives, the MLAs should frequently tour their constituencies, the MP added.
He also said that under the leadership of Chief Minister N Biren Singh, the relationship between hills and valleys has been built up. At least 45 per cent of the state budget is given to hill districts, he added.
The MP maintained Tamenglong district needs a good representative and called for the people to support retired DFO Huri Golmei, an intending candidate, and help him work for the people of the district.
As a part of the reception programme, Phunguang youth club performed a beautiful cultural dance followed by traditional ho-hoing.
BJP Manipur Pradesh ex- president M Bhorot Singh, BJP Manipur Pradesh Tamenglong in-charge Th Yumjao Singh also spoke on the occasion.
BJP intending candidate Huri Golmei also spoke on the occasion and requested the people of Tamenglong to stand with him and see how he really wants to work for the welfare of Tamenglong.
He also said that there are four candidates contesting in the forthcoming state assembly election.
"If you elect me, I will stay in Tamenglong district headquarters and work my level best to remove the ‘backward’ word tagged with Tamenglong district. Please test my humbleness and willingness to work for the welfare of people", Huri Golmei said.
Meanwhile, a lotus campaign was kicked off, led by BJP Manipur Pradesh Tamenglong in-charge Th Yumjao Singh.
