Rajya Sabha MP Sanajaoba Leishemba on Tuesday called upon the Centre to deploy stringent security measures on the two National Highways of Manipur to ensure undisturbed passage of vehicles.
The MP drew the attention of central authorities to properly implement a feasible security protocols for safety of people and vehicles plying on both highways.
The MP put forth the demands on the floor of the Parliament on Tuesday.
In his address, the MP highlighted that the two National Highways, namely, NH-2 and NH 37, were two vital lifelines of the state which contributed to the state’s economy.
“However, incessant bandhs and shutdown of the two highways have seriously impeded the state’s growth. Disruption in movement of good-laden vehicles causes serious distress for the people who depend on the two highways for essential commodities,” he said.
He pointed out that availability of pharmaceuticals, oil and other essential commodities were severely affected by such activities.
Movement of passengers are also hampered, he added.
As such, he appealed to central authorities to implement swift security actions to ensure safety of the people and the property.
