The Moltam Lhang comprising the Tingkai area, New Keithelmanbi area along the National Highway-37, and Khoken area in Kangpokpi District have unanimously resolved in its general assembly to eradicate poppy cultivation and preserve nature and forest and its produce.
The general assembly of the civil society organisations of Moltam block, Kangpokpi district was held in Lower Pholjang village under the aegis of Kuki Inpi Moltam Lhang, Kuki Chief Association, and Kuki Students' Organisation Moltam block.
The general assembly was attended by 36 village chiefs apart from various youth club leaders in the area.
The August house deliberated at length for the welfare of the people, protection, and preservation of forest, wildlife, and nature and ultimately took a unanimous resolution in the meeting.
It resolved to preserve nature and forest produce in the entire area and strictly prohibited quarrying, and mining of sand, and soil in the area.
It also resolved to strictly put a blanket ban on hunting wildlife (animals and birds).
With an aim to fulfil a 'Drug-Free Zone' in the entire area, it also collectively resolved to eradicate the cultivation of poppy with the support of village chiefs and youth clubs.
The civil society organisations of Moltam Lhang also conveyed that the CSOs of the area are at all time willing to participate with the Department of Forest and Police to eradicate poppy cultivation and in protecting and preserving forest resources.
