MLA Th Shanti on Wednesday praised the role of the media in raising public awareness of the latest news and information, and called upon the media fraternity of Manipur to adhere to ethics and refrain from publishing fake news that could mislead the public.
He was delivering the chief guest speech during the 50K Subscribers Attainment Function of Khongthang News held at its office in Ningthemcha Karong in Imphal West.
Stressing the importance and role of the media in society, Shanti stated that without media, a society would always remain incomplete.
He pointed out that news in the media has the power to both create chaos and provide relief to the masses, emphasising the responsibility of Manipur’s media in informing the public.
Shanti lauded Khonthang News for its achievements despite the ban on mobile internet and wished the team good luck in their future endeavors, serving the public as a responsible media outlet.
During the programme, appreciation certificates were also handed over to some media personnel for their commitment and services to the people of Manipur.
The programme was attended by the editor of Kangleipakki Meira Wangkhemcha Shyamjai as the president and CEO of KB Philanthropy L Manoranjan as the guest of honor.
