Family members of Yumnam Sanjit Singh of the 4th IRB, one of the escorts of MLA Yamthong Haokip, have demanded a proper investigation after Sanjit suffered serious head injury on the fateful night of December 5.

Addressing the Media at the Manipur Press Club on Friday, Puyam Surchandra (Sanjit’s cousin) said the victim from Tengdongyang Maning Leikai is a rifleman of 4th IRB and now posted at Saikul MLA Yamthang Haokip from last five months as his escort.

He narrated that the incident occurred on December 5 at the residence of MLA Yamthong Haokip wherein Sanjit had severe head injury. The family got a phone call from one of the victim's colleagues around 7.50 PM informing them that Sanjit fell in the bathroom, injured his head seriously and was admitted at Raj Medicity.

However, the nature of injury which left a mark on his head is a highly suspected case of physical assault, Surchandra said.

Since the admission to the hospital, Sanjit is undergoing treatment,  including head operation. However, Sanjit is unconscious and in coma, the family stated, adding that the hospital wants the patient to be discharged as there is no hope of improving his condition, he added.

He also stated that the family members went to lodge an FIR at Saikul Police Station on December 8 but were denied to do so. Besides this, family members have been approaching the said MLA even with the help of ministers and former ministers but to not avail morning response from the MLA, the family said.

“It is highly condemnable that the concerned MLA has not uttered a single word even after five days. We really want proper investigation from thr authority to ascertain the reason behind such severe injury as soon as possible. Otherwise various forms of agitation will be launched,” he warned.
