To solve the irrigated-water supply problem for farmers of different villages located at the Khuga Canal Division 2, MLA of Churachandpur LM Khaute on Saturday provided a JCB and his workers to clean the Canal so as to facilitate water supply to the needy.
More than 70 hectare of paddy fields are in need of water as this is the peak time for sowing paddy.
The cleaning and an attempt to re-open the approximately 2 km long canal was the result of the affected farmers’ plea to the local MLA as they were in dire need after the concerned Executive Engineers of the Khuga canal Division 2, Water Resource Department (formally IFCD) told them that they had no functioning office nor had any fund to clean the canal which block irrigation water flows due to the absence of maintenance where the water was block by the debris.
Meanwhile, with some local residents objecting the exercise, the Addl. DC Khaikhopau Ngaihte, SDO of Churachandpur Darun Kumar and police rushed to spot wherein the Addl. DC said that the issue was deposition of debris which was settled and the work will be completed in around 10 days.
He said that the DC of Churachandpur had directed the Water Resource Department to clean the canal and when they had made an excuse of no funds from the department, the MLA stepped in.
