Khundrakpam assembly constituency MLA Th Lokeshwar on Friday questioned if there is any law and order in Manipur, condemning the excessive actions of security forces on meira paibis of Sabungkhok, Seijang and Yaigangpokpi.
Speaking to the media at his quarter located at Babupura, Lokeshwar said that the state government had announced that normalcy is returning in the state but there is firing from the hillside every day.
He questioned whether the law in Manipur is not under the law of India. It is a democratic state which has freedom of speech and expression. The state government has banned public speaking to professors of Manipur University as well as other professors, he alleged.
“Why is there a different law between hill and valley districts?” he questioned.
He said that the state government had made announcements of taking action against the security personnel who attacked Meira Paibis at Pallel but the public is yet to get any report of taking action. Again, Meira Paibis were beaten at Imphal East district on Thursday, he added.
He also condemned the forced deletion of video footage by security personnel at Sabungkhok, stating that it is a total violation of freedom of speech and expression.
The continuous firing will end when the people of the hill side are disarmed. Only then the valley people will also stop retaliating, he said. “It is extremely unfortunate that a bomb was planted at a youth’s gate. What is going on in Manipur? It is like letting the youths kill each other and end the future,” he added.
It is time to come all together and fight for the future or else there will be civil war, he said.
