The Manipur Keithel Nupi Marup (MKNM) reaffirmed upholding the integrity of Khwairamband Ima Keithel during its 40th foundation day celebration held on Sunday at the heart of the Khwairamband Keithel in Imphal.
Remembering the late leaders of the Ima Keithel, floral tributes were paid to the late Imas.
Speaking on the occasion as chief guest, MLA Th Arunkumar described the Ima Keithel as the mirror of Manipur's identity acquiring the quality of integrity and multiracial, besides playing a vital role in the economy of Manipur.
He also pointed out that the handloom and handicrafts items, which are now popular worldwide, might not be that popular if there is no Ima Keithel. They are the ones who are promoting it to international level, he added.
Highlighting the frontal role played by the vendors of Ima Keithel in every state interest issue, he said that today's Imas still carries the courage and bravery of those who fought in the first and second Nupi Lal.
President of Federation of Civil Society Organisation, Th Manihar, highlighted the history of Ima Keithel which had broken the stereotypes of women roles which were being confined only to household activities.
The vendors of Ima Keithel have shown the world that women are not meant to be confined in the household activities but that they also have the same courage as men in contribution to their socio-economic status, Manihar said.
The FOCS president lastly promised to extend all possible support to the MKNM in every aspect as a like-minded group.
The programme was also attended by senior vendors Bhidhu Devi and RK Sanahanbi, social activist Pebam Bruce and president of MKNM Y Ibeni Devi as presidium members.
