Miscreants leave bomb at gate of BYJM president; locals stage protest in Imphal East

Decrying the bomb threat to the BYJM president, womenfolk of the area staged a sit-in protest at Ningthem Pukhri Mapal on Wednesday.

Miscreants allegedly left a hand grenade at the gate of Bharatiya Janata Yuva Morcha (BJYM) president M Barish’s residence in Imphal East early Wednesday, sources said.  

A VDF personnel found the bomb placed at the gate of the house of Barish at Wangkhei Ningthem Pukhri Mapal Lane-1, under Porompat Police Station. He spotted it when he came for the day's duty as security at the residence of Manoharmayum Barish, son of M Balraj. The grenade was put inside a can filled with nuts and bolts and left in front of the gate, the police said.

A bomb disposal squad of the Manipur Police collected the bomb at 7.5 am and disposed of by detonating it at Tharoi Sibi Ching near Navodaya School, Yaral Pat at 8.30 am.    

The BJYM president told the media he had received threats from different UG groups as the Legislative Assembly Election 2022 draws near.

Terming the incident unfortunate, he appealed to those behind the act to not carry out such acts of terrorism in a populated area.

Meanwhile, decrying the bomb threat, womenfolk of the area staged a sit-in protest at Ningthem Pukhri Mapal on Wednesday afternoon.

Condemning the act, member of Apunba Nupi Khunai Kanglup Unit-4 Landhoni Aribam told newspersons that such a terrifying bomb threat at a residential area has raised apprehension among the people of the area. She appealed to the culprits to not repeat such an act in the future.
