Manipur Health and IPR Minister Dr S Ranjan Singh has inaugurated a multipurpose cold storage at Kangmong, Imphal West. The storage will have a capacity of 200 Matric Tone with four chambers.
Speaking as chief guest, the minister maintained that the state produces varieties of crops and fruits. Festivals have also been organised to encourage the farmers and also to promote farm products. Orange festival, lemon festival, chilli festival, pineapple festival etc. may be mentioned. There are new varieties of fruits and vegetables cultivated in the state as a new venture of farming, he added.
He said that we have less facilities for storing these farm products. With the view to preserve and conserve the farm products of the state cold storage at different locations are required. Our land is also gifted with rich soil which is suitable for a variety of crops. We should make the use of our soil at the optimum so that there will be no shortage of foodgrains, the minister informed.
Speaking as president, MLA, Naorya Pakhanglakpa Assembly Constituency S Kebi Devi said that setting up of cold storage at different locations will help to avail farm products during off seasons. This will also prevent crops from getting damaged and rotten.
