Manipur Textiles, Commerce and Industry and Cooperation Minister Nemcha Kipgen distributed loom to 40 beneficiaries in Kangpokpi under the Loom Upgradation Scheme 2021-2022 on Saturday.
The loom distribution under the Loom Upgradation Scheme 2021-2022 was held by the District Handlooms and Textiles Kangpokpi with an aim to promote handloom products to the outside world and create financial sustenance for the weavers.
The Textiles minister handed over the loom to the beneficiaries in the presence of the District Handlooms and Textiles, Kangpokpi Project Manager, L. Dasumati, and Supervisor Wonsingla during the distribution function.
Speaking at the function, Textiles, Commerce and Industry and Cooperation Minister Nemcha Kipgen said, "The Kangpokpi Cluster of Handloom and Textiles, despite being the first to establish in the entire northeast in 2013 has been lacking in all spheres and I am not satisfied with its progress and development. However, with the new Project Manager, I have confidence that it will progress well and serve its purpose".
The minister then strictly cautioned the beneficiaries that all beneficiaries will be Geo-tech and if any beneficiaries were found selling the loom, stringent action will be taken and they may also land in jail.
She encouraged the beneficiaries to sincerely and actively participate in the training and if they are interested, all necessary requirements will be provided by the concerned department.
The minister further said that beneficiaries need no more worry about their products as the handloom and textiles products can now be sold online on Amazon.
