Manipur Water Resources Minister Awangbow Newmai on Thursday chaired Tamenglong DLOs’ meeting in Tamenglong district headquarters and reviewed the development works undertaken in the district to help bring progress and changes under the present state government.

The meeting was held in the presence of local MLA Janghemlung Panmei, ADC Tamenglong caretaker Namsinrei Panmei DC, Tamenglong Pawan Yadav and others district level officers.

MLA Janghemlung urged the DLOs present to express their views and suggestions openly to develop the district. He also requested all the district level officers to create a work friendly environment at the district headquarters.

The MLA directed the various departments present to update with the various schemes and works undertaken presently with the deputy commissioner of Tamenglong so that the tag of ‘most backward district’ is removed. He regretted that some district level officers did not attend the meeting or interaction with the local MLA.

Janghem further appealed to all district level officers to properly plan for development projects in their respective department for bringing changes during their tenures. He also suggested that the next posted officer may follow up the plan development projects when the former officials leave their posts.

Tamenglong deputy commissioner Pawan Yadav also briefed about the various achievements of the schemes and works undertaken in PMGSY, DRDA and NREGA. He, however, highlighted the lack of funds in PMAY and NREGA at the state account funds.

Stressing that education is the backbone of the society, the minister directed the Education department to draw up plans and projects and present them to the deputy commissioner, be it anything related with the construction of schools, lack of teachers and funds for the schools development, so that no child is left behind from getting basic education.

Lack of staff, vehicles and frequent transfer and posting in police, medical and education departments was the main discussion of the developmental review meeting.

Altogether, 34 departments took part in the developmental review meeting and presented their views openly and committed to work for the development of Tamenglong district.

Newmai also instructed the DC Tamenglong to make a list of those who were absent in the review meeting and instructed them to report to the DC as to why they were absent.

The minister and the MLA discussed about the Road and Communication with the department concerned and instructed to seriously look into this matter.
