Security forces have arrested one active member of the proscribed Kangleipak Communist Party (KCP) from the Kotlen area under Kangpokpi district, Manipur.
The arrest was made around 5.30 pm Wednesday by a combined team of special commando unit and a column of 10th Assam Rifles.
The arrested person was identified as one Kharibam Jayentakumar Singh, 22, son of Kharibam Chandrakumar from Lamdeng Makha Leikai, Imphal West district.
Police stated that acting on a tipoff about the movement of some armed militants suspected to be KCP member in Kotlen area, a combined team of special commando unit, Khabeisoi led by its officer-in-charge L Bebekananda Singh and a column of 10th Assam Rifles under the overall supervision of SP/Railway and incharge special commando Khabeisoi, Th Krishnatombi rushed to the area and conducted frisking and checking.
During the operation, some villagers informed about the movement of some suspected people towards Lamdeng Makha Leikai, Imphal West district area.
The combined team surrounded a suspected house and conducted a house search operation at Lamdeng Makha Leikai and detained Jayentakumar. On questioning, Jayentakumar revealed that he is an active KCP cadre and working as a recruiting agent. He said he had recruited a person from the Leimakhong area.
He further revealed that at present, he is working under the command of one Tomthin Singh from Heibongpokpi, Imphal West who is a recruiting officer of the same outlaw organisation. He said his task is to collect monetary amounts and serve monetary demand letters to government offices and businessmen for the banned organisation. He has been working in the Imphal area for the last four-five months, police reported.
Jayentakumar was arrested and handed over to Lamshang police station for further action.
