Migrant workers leave Imphal for home state Bihar

Manipur MLA RK Imo Singh said a total of 13 migrant workers who have been staying at Paona Bazaar, Imphal have been sent off to their home state Bihar in a hired bus.

Migrant workers in Manipur left for their home state Bihar in a hired bus and their return journey was flagged off by MLA RK Imo Singh on Wednesday.

Imo said that altogether, 13 migrant workers who have been staying at Paona Bazaar, Imphal have been sent off to their home state Bihar in a hired bus.

“Each life is important. I feel that being the MLA concerned, arranging for their safe return to their home town is one of my responsibilities. It is the least that we can do for them,” Imo said speaking at the occasion.

The MLA also expressed extended his gratitude to the people of Sagolband assembly constituency for giving assistance and support in many ways.

Imo also said that it is also due to support and cooperation from the people of Sagolband assembly constituency that the community quarantine centre could be run successfully.

On Tuesday, the Supreme Court directed the Centre and state governments to send back all migrant workers to their respective native places within 15 days' time and formulate employment schemes for them.

The SC bench comprising justices Ashok Bhushan, Sanjay Kishan Kaul and MR Shah directed the Centre to provide additional trains within 24 hours of the states making the demand for train travel arrangement to send back migrant workers to their native places.

Authorities were also directed to identify and register migrant workers who want to go back to their native places and send them back within 15 days from Tuesday after conducting skill mapping to rehabilitate them.

The bench directed the authorities concerned to consider withdrawing all cases against migrant workers for alleged violation of lockdown norms under the Disaster Management Act. It also said that adequate publicity on welfare schemes and employment of migrant workers should be given.
