MHRC chairperson visits Moreh

Manipur Human Rights Commission (MHRC) chairperson Justice UB Saha appealed to all the communities for contacting their old friends of different communities for bringing peace and to end ethnic dispute for better manipur.

Manipur Human Rights Commission (MHRC) chairperson Justice UB Saha on Friday visited Moreh and held a meeting with the villagers of residents of Moreh town in Tengnoupal district.

The chairperson interacted with the members of Tamil Sangam, Meitei Pangal, Nepali and Kuki residents.

During the interaction, the Tamil community narrated that they have no other means for earning as no businessmen from Imphal came to Moreh since May 3 last year which has severely affected their livelihood.

Other Moreh residents complained about the lack of basic amenities including poor facilities at PHC.
The chairperson made a point for other minority communities to play a mediating role in bridging the gap between conflicting communities in the meeting held at Tamil Sangam.

After hearing the petition from civil societies, the chairperson also visited the relief camps located at Moreh Higher Secondary School and later visited the Meitei families staying at KLP AR campus and took a review of their living conditions.

The chairperson praised the Assam Rifles and DC, SP Tengnoupal before departing for Imphal .
The MHRC chairperson was accompanied by IGP Zone-1, Themthing Masangba and MHRC Under Secretary Ziaur Rahman during his maiden visit to Moreh town.

The MHRC chairperson also inspected the living conditions of the Meitei IDPs who are taking shelter at Key Location Point (KLP) of Assam Rifles; there are three families with eight IDPs in the camp.

During the interaction, it was said that most of the IDPs, who initially took refuge in Myanmar since 3rd May last year, had been repatriated by the Myanmar authority and they were first taken to KLP and then, many of them are reported sheeted to IDP camps in Thoubal.  

Justice Saha also visited the town areas and inspected the destroyed community market in Moreh. In his interaction with the CSO leaders he took inputs on any issues related to Human Rights. He also stressed the importance of mutual respect and understanding and appealed to all communities to move forward with forgiveness and cooperation.

Justice Saha appealed to all the communities for contacting their old friends of different communities for bringing peace and to end ethnic dispute for better manipur.

If peace can’t be developed then none of the communities will survive and the future of the young, the educated and the old will be affected. He also called all community leaders to come together and work for developing peace leaving their own philosophy and political ideology and differences to develop the harmony between the communities in the state of manipur.
