The Manipur State Panchayat Parishad (MSPP) has decried the news report alleging private secretary, deputy CM of Manipur Thongam Shanti of demanding three per cent commission for the release of state and MGNREGS funds for Panchayati Raj Institutes (PRIs).

The news report that was published in a local daily of the state on Monday of Thongam Shanti demanding bribes came as a shock, MSPP stated in a release jointly signed by president Abdullatif and general secretary N Jadumani Singh on Wednesday.

The Panchayat Parishad has no connection in regards to the matter, it stated. “When MSPP had approached the minister and department concerned to request the release of PRI funds, no PRIs were present except for the office bearers of our executive body and staff,” MSPP stated.

When the Panchayat Parishad is trying its best to ensure the release of state and MGNREGS funds for PRIs, such baseless reports published in the print media is rather unfortunate for the PRIs. “If the PRIs have anything to say in regard to the Panchayat Parishad, please consider the matter thoroughly and weigh the rights and wrongs before expressing them,” MSPP appealed.
