Menstrual hygiene awareness campaign held at 25 locations in Chandel

Awareness sessions on hygiene management were conducted under the guidance of trained and experienced medical professionals, and free biodegradable sanitary napkins were distributed.

A week-long awareness programme on menstrual hygiene was successfully held at 25 different locations in Chandel district as part of the Menstrual Hygiene Day, 2022 and Environment Day Celebration, 2022 under the Ministry of Jal Shakti’s Swachh Bharat Mission (Grameen).

Held from June 5-11, 2022, the programmes were held under the aegis of PHED, Chandel in collaboration with the Regional Development Society (REDS) and headed by the Executive Engineer, PHED, Chandel.

Participants included Dr B Cingdeihnieng, the District AIDS Control Officer for Chandel; Newry Tongsin Anal, District Project Manager for Accelerate project, Chandel; K Neinu Monsang, Secretary, Rural women and child development society (RWCDS) and Henei Hangsing, Additional Nurse Superintendent of JNIMS Imphal.

Awareness sessions on hygiene management were conducted under the guidance of trained and experienced medical professionals. There was also distribution of free biodegradable sanitary napkins along with instructions on their safe disposal.

Local women of influential standings were enlisted and this encouraged better participation and turn out from the villagers.

In addition to these sessions, a door-to-door campaign was conducted with REDS with the aim of spreading awareness through one-on-one interactions along with the distribution of at least 5,000 sanitary pads which are biodegradable and would be affordable to the general populace.
