Meitei Alliance on Monday condemned the terror attacks by Kuki militants at Koutruk and Kadangband in Imphal West district on Sunday in which a young woman was killed and 9 others injured including a 12-year-old daughter of the deceased.

The Kuki militants used high-tech drones and rocket propelled projectiles for aerial bombing, followed by heavy gun firing towards the Meitei villages, stated a release.

It lamented that 70,000 central military and paramilitary forces deployed for counter-terrorism have allegedly failed to protect the lives, livelihood, and properties of the citizens. Such inaction of the central forces encourages the Kuki terrorists to unleash terror, sabotaging peace efforts in the state, it accused.

It asserted that the unprecedented terror has forced the villagers to flee their homes and seek shelter elsewhere while the terrorists continue to commit arsons and plunder. It condemned that such a modus operandi of terrorism has been carried out many times in the past.

It further questioned the Centre’s alleged failure to take up stringent actions against the terrorists, who have been repeatedly violating India’s Constitution and International Humanitarian Laws. It urged the Centre to fulfil its fundamental duty of protecting citizens from these terrorist groups.

It also acknowledged the statements made by the State Government and the police of taking necessary measures to hold the terrorists accountable and appealed to take concrete actions on the same.

UMO condemns attack by Kuki terrorist

Universal Mothers Organisation (UMO) on Monday strongly condemned the reign of bomb and gun attack by Kuki terrorist in several peripheral valley areas on Sunday.

UMO condoled the demise of the woman who was caught in the gunfight at Koutruk while extending the same to all the casualties of the unfortunate event.

Speaking to the media at UMO office, Imphal, UMO president Sorojini Leima stated that such incidents had become a regular incident every time the chief minister publicly announced law and order was tilting towards normalcy.

“He recently stated that peace would return within six months in Manipur and the attack unfolded. While the leaders play politics, it is the people who pay the price with their lives,” she said.

As such, she demanded the ruling and the opposing sides in the assembly to go to the frontlines instead of mud-slinging on public and media platforms.

“Every time there is a shootout, the central and state forces will be the first ones to conduct combing operations in the valley areas,” she added.

Therefore, she further demanded authorities to stop such acts and realign their focus on tackling the Kuki terrorists.
