Students and members of the Meetei Society, Churachandpur who excelled in their respective fields were facilitated by the said organisation during the observation of its 66th Foundation day at Meetei Society Hall, Khuga Tampak, Churachandpur on Thursday.
The programme was attended by Youth Affairs Minister Govindas Khonthoujam as chief guest, Meetei Society president Moirangthem Thoiba Singh as president, Moirang MLA Thongam Shanti Singh, actor RK Somendro (Kaiku) and ELAL, Churachandpur president Angom Nayani Leima as guests of honours.
The event also witnessed the observance of a one-minute silence to pay respects to the departed leader of the Society.
Three PhD holders from Meetei society, Churachandpur, namely Soibam Sangeeta, Dhanapriya Moirangthem and Nganbi Chanu and international football player from the community, Chinglensana Konsam were facilitated by presenting gifts for their achievements.
Minister Govindas congratulated the Meetei society on their 66th Foundation Day. He lauded the achievers, urging the general public all to emulate them and excel in their chosen field which will ultimately ensure a healthy society which is free from drugs.
He laid focus on the importance of doing more research on medicinal plants which are of low cost and easily available. He also emphasised on the importance of education, particularly upon the youth.
Moirangthem Thoiba Singh spoke on the challenges and contributions of Meetei Society and its role in maintaining a peaceful atmosphere, while taking on board everyone irrespective of community, caste or creed.
