Meetei people have been called to revisit their historical identity during a discourse programme held in Imphal on Sunday.
Pointing towards the pre-Pakhangba period of the Meetei history, a retired professor stated that the history of the Meetei is over 4500 years old and not 2000 years, and called upon the people to revisit their historical identity.
Retired professor H Indrakumar, while giving a speech during a discourse programme on Sunday at the Manipur Press Club, Imphal briefed on the history of Meetei people and said that the original people of Manipur are the Meeteis.
“When you revisit the history of Meetei of pre-Pakhangba period you will gain new lesson,” Indrakumar said, adding that the history before Nongda Lairen Pakhangba should not be forgotten.
In history, there is jurisdiction authority of hills and even name of gods were written in the history, he said and added that for Koubru hill- Koubalel Agangga; Maram hill-Wanghukup; Thangjing hill- Koirellai; Wangfulen hill- Wangfulen; Tengnoupal- Lokningthou; Moreh- Konthong Lairembi; Angko hill- Shidaba Salailen Nongpok Ningthou; Nongpok Apaanba (Ukhrul)- Saram Pakhangba etc.
During the discourse, a Global Meetei Union was inaugurated in the presence of Thambal Marik College principal, KH Mohon; retired chief manager of SBI, Y Nirmol; associate professor in Political Science of Tamenglong College, N Somorendro; Malem Meetei Erupki Chierap vice-president, Y Nouba.
