Ministry of External Affairs (MEA) additional secretary Vinay Kumar visited the Integrated Check Post (ICP) Moreh and held a meeting there on Friday.

The meeting was attended by SP LCS Moreh SK Gangte; manager ICP Robin Gangte; SDC Moreh L Brojendra Singh; CO 43 AR Moreh Col Sumit Sood and staff of ICP/LPAI and immigration officials.

Various issues which favour informal trade in the region and possible ways and measures to promote formal trades through ICP were discussed in the meeting. Existence of a long porous border, absence of proper trade agreements on imports from third countries through Myanmar and non availability of VISA facility at Moreh were highlighted and others were discussed in the meeting.

In November 2021, senior diplomat Vinay Kumar (IFS:1992) was appointed as the next ambassador of India to the Republic of the Union of Myanmar. He will replace Saurabh Kumar (IFS:1989), who has been shifted to the Ministry of External Affairs as Secretary (East).

At present, Kumar is serving as additional secretary in the Ministry and is expected to take up the assignment shortly.
