MASLSA celebrates 72nd year of adoption of Constitution of India

Freedom of expression has been given to the citizens of India under Article 19(1)(a) but nobody has seen Article 19 (2)., judge Guneshwar Sharma said.

Manipur State Legal Services Authority in collaboration with District Legal Services Authority, Imphal West and District Legal Service Authority, Imphal East and District Legal Services Authority, Tamenglong celebrated the 72nd year of adoption of “Constitution of India” at conference hall, ADR Building, Lamphel Court Complex, on Friday.

It was organised under direction of National Legal Services Authority as a part of “Azadi ki Amrit Mahotsav celebration” and to mark the 72nd year of adoption of the Constitution of India.

During the programme, District and Sessions Judge cum chairperson, DLSA, Imphal West, A Guneshwar Sharma gave a brief about the Preamble of India, fundamental duties and rights with principles given to citizens of India.

He said that in the present internet world, people in social media speak and do whatever and anything. Freedom of expression has been given to the citizens of India under Article 19(1)(a) but nobody has seen Article 19 (2).

While looking at fundamental rights, people should see and know the fundamental duties also, he added.

MASLSA secretary, Ojesh Mutum said after India became an Independent nation, the Constituent Assembly entrusted the job of drafting the Constitution to a committee chaired by Dr Bhimrao Ambedkar. Dr Rajendra Prasad, the first President of India, was the President of the Constituent Assembly.

In the beginning of 1948, Dr Ambedkar completed the draft of the Indian Constitution and presented it in the Constituent Assembly. On November 26, 1949, this draft was adopted with very few amendments.

The Indian Constitution came into force on January 26, 1950. The Preamble of the Constitution declares India as a sovereign, socialist, secular and democratic republic and aims to secure justice, liberty, and equality to all citizens and promote fraternity to maintain unity and integrity of the nation.

District; Sessions Judge cum Chairperson, DLSA, Imphal East, RK Memcha; Member Secretary, Manipur State Legal Services Authority; Ojesh Mutum; Judicial Officers, Advocates, Para Legal Volunteers, representatives of media houses, staff of Legal Services Institutions and courts.
As a part of the programme, the Preamble of the Constitution of India was also read by all the participants.

Further, as a part of the Azadi Ka Amrit Mahotsav and in connection with Observance of Constitution Day, the District Legal Services Authority, Chandel under the aegis of National Legal Services Authority organized a Walkathon and a poster campaign on the theme -“Free and Fair Election” at Chandel District. The walkathon was flagged off from Chandel Police Station covering around 7 (seven) villages and finally concluded at DC Lamkhai, Chandel.

The Panel Lawyers, PLVs and youths of local clubs and organizations participated in the programme. Posters containing the Voter’s Check List issued by this authority were handed out and put up at strategic areas of Chandel Headquarter as a part of the said programme.

The programme concluded with the team of DLSA, Chandel along with the participants reading out the Preamble of the Indian Constitution as a part of the Observance.

A similar programme of poster campaigns was also carried out at Pallel and Moreh of Tengnoupal District as a part of the Observance of Constitution Day.
