Many condemn bomb attack on RIMS director's residence

Locals of Uripok Ahenthem Leikai, Imphal West, strongly condemned the act of exploding a bomb at a populated, residential area.

Local club members of Uripok Ahanthem Leikai Development Organisation (UALDO) and local meira paibis on Wednesday staged a one-day joint sit-in-protest at Uripok Ahenthem Leikai, Imphal West, condemning the blast that occurred at a residential area on Monday night.

Speaking on the sidelines of the protest, UALDO general secretary Anoubam Arunkumar Sharma said the bomb suspected to be an IED exploded at the residence of RIMS director Ahanthem Shanta on Monday night.

The locals strongly condemned the act of exploding a bomb at a populated, residential area, he said.

If there are any misunderstandings, they could be solved amicably instead of resorting to such activities, he added.

He appealed to those behind the incident to not repeat the act in the future. Instead, they should try to resolve any sort of misunderstanding without taking up violence, he said.

Meanwhile, Association of RIMS Alumni (ARIMSA) issued a condemnation in a letter signed by its secretary Dr RK Lenin Singh, decrying the bomb blast at the residence of director RIMS professor A Shanta Singh.

The letter mentioned that the association strongly condemned the violent act of hurling of a bomb at the residence of director, RIMS A Shanta Singh on Monday.

“We strongly believe in cordial relationships between doctors and the community. Requesting everyone to refrain from any violent act against the healthcare setups,” it read.

Indian Medical Association (IMA), Manipur State Branch also condemned the bomb attack.

A statement issued by IMA state branch president Jugindra Sorokhaibam and state secretary James Elangbam mentioned that the organisation strongly condemned the bomb attack at the Uripok residence of RIMS director.

“Such mindless hurling of bombs in crowded residential area is an act of cowardice and irresponsibility,” it read. It also urged the government to take up necessary action against the miscreants at the earliest. 

Meanwhile, no group or any individuals has made claims or issued clarifications for the incident.
