The People’s Convention resolved to demand patta (land document) for the 2,000 square metre of land allocated to the Preservation Committee of Deported Manipur War Heroes in Andaman and Nicobar Island by the government of Andaman and Nicobar government.
The people’s convention was held on Tuesday at Manipur Press Club in Imphal West and was organised by the Preservation Committee of Deported Manipur War Heroes in Andaman and Nicobar Island.
According to the committee secretary N Nabakanta, the committee has been demanding land in the Andaman and Nicobar island to build a heritage site of Manipur at Kalapani as it is a historic location for the many deported war heroes of Manipur.

Fortunately the Andaman and Nicobar government allocated land at Goodwill Estate to the committee on July 27, 2019, he informed.
In order to develop the allocated land into a Manipur historical site independently, acquiring of patta became essential, he said, adding that the resolution was taken in the interest of all the people of Manipur to preserve its historical site.
The convention also formed a seven-member team headed by S Tondang as chief convenor to lead the movement for demand of the patta.
The renaming of Mt Harriet to Mt Manipur by the Central government as a tribute to the unsung heroes of Manipur is not related with the steps taken up by the committee to preserve the historical site of Manipur at the island, the secretary clarified.

The convention was also attended by International and National Awardee Koijam Punabati Leima, president of Kangla Sintha Lembi Ima Lup, Yaikhom Thagoi Leima; and advisor of Kangla Main Surung Hanba, Soram Poreihanba Luwang as presidium members among others.
