Manipur's COVID-19 tally crosses 7000; death toll 38

As many as 139 more people tested positive for Coronavirus and two more COVID-19 patients died in Manipur on Sunday

Manipur's COVID-19 tally has crossed the 7,000 mark as 139 more people tested positive for the infection while two more COVID-19 patients died, pushing the death toll in the state to 38, according to the state health department evening bulletin on Sunday.

The new positive patients included 19 personnel of the Central Armed Police Force (CAPF). Of the 121 cases from the general populaton, including 81 males and 40 females, 74 are from Imphal West, 21 from Imphal East, one from Senapati, two from Ukhrul, one from Tamenglong, 18 from Thoubal, two from Curachandpur and two from Bishnupur. All are locals without any significant travel history. They are being shifted to different Covid care facilities and contact tracing and containment measures are in place, a release from the COVID-19 Common Control Room stated.

The two deaths included one male aged 53 from Thoubal district and a female aged 31 from Imphal West. They died at JNIMS and RIMS respectively from COVID-19 and other co-morbid conditions, the release stated.

Meanwhile, 189 persons were discharged in the past 24 hours after they were found COVID-19 free on RT PCR test. With it the number of recoveries in the state rose to 5,164 (general population - 4,013 and CAPF - 1,151) and the recovery rate is 73.54 per cent, the release stated.

They cumulative number of positive cases in the state is 7,022 (general population - 5,331 and CAPF - 1,691) of which 1,820 are active cases, the release added.
