The rally was held under the aegis of Awang Sekmai Kanba Nupi Lup.

Speaking to the media, Sekmai Kanba Nupi Lup assistant coordinator Khwairakpam Asharani Devi said that the security forces should not even attempt to arrest village volunteers who have been at the forefront to protect the people since the outbreak of violence in Manipur.

The government should contain violence first by working out an amicable solution rather than focusing on arresting volunteers, she said.

She also criticised the India government and the state government alleging biased attitudes between the two communities.

“Why does the government target our village volunteers only and not the other side?”, she questioned, maintaining that the government should do the same on the other side too.
