Reacting to COCOMI’s clarion call for Meira (torch) rallies in all corners of the valley, several Meira Paibis took out protest rallies in their respective localities on Friday night decrying the authorities’ inaction and silence even after 17 months of Manipur conflict.

Hundreds of women came out with thunderous roar condemning the biased security tactics of central armed forces and the divide and rule tactics.

The women raised slogans and held placards which put forth several dissents regarding the handling of the ongoing conflict in Manipur.

Speaking to the media, one woman protestor questioned why the conflict was dragged on for so long.

“Can’t they hear the cries of thousands languishing in relief camps or are they too focused on stoking the proxy conflict?” she asked.

She urged the authorities to drop their geo-political games and address the matter truthfully and with utmost sincerity.

She also maintained that the lives of people were at stake and the state would be driven into even more suffering if the conflict dragged on longer.

This could lead to even more hostile situations in the state, she added.

Major areas where the rallies took place include Keishampat, Sagolband, Wangkhei, Lamlong, Andro and many more areas in the valley.
