In the midst of the ongoing curfew and internet ban in the valley region of Manipur, the Kuki militants continued to launch violent attacks on the peripheral areas of Sugnu village in Kakching district late Wednesday night.
According to reports, the militants targeted the outskirts of Sugnu using bombs, Medium Machine Guns (MMGs), and other weapons.
The sudden and intense attack caused widespread panic among the residents, who have been living under constant threat due to the ongoing unrest. Fortunately, no casualties have been reported so far.
The attack comes at a time when the valley region is under strict curfew, with movement severely restricted and internet services suspended by the government to curb protests in the Imphal region.
The assault by Kuki militants in the midst of such restrictions has raised serious concerns among the local population, who fear for their safety amidst the escalating conflict.
Reacting to the attack, security forces conducted a mass combing operation in the Sugnu area beginning around 11.30 am on Thursday.
The operation, which lasted for nearly three and a half hours, ended without any arrests or seizures.
The Sugnu Apunba Meira Paibi strongly condemned the combing operation, arguing that it failed to address the real threat posed by the Kuki militants.
They criticised the security forces for their inability to take decisive action against the attackers and called for a more robust response to ensure the safety of residents.
The organisation further declared that if both central and state forces fail to retaliate against any future attacks by the Kuki militants, they would hold both sets of forces responsible for any harm that comes to the residents of Sugnu.
