Manipur Violence: Army personnel injured in Kuki militants’ attack at Thamnapokpi

Kuki militants continue to plot and commit terror attacks at Thamnapokpi and Sanasabi under Yaingangpokpi Police Station in Imphal East district, Manipur.

Following Saturday’s attack, Kuki militants reportedly launched yet another unprovoked attack at midnight, injuring a Mahar Regiment personnel, sources said. The attack continued till wee hours around 1.30 am.

The Kuki militants fired pompis from Uyokching towards Thamnapokpi, sources stated.

Following which, an intense gun battle occured between security forces and the militants.

Upon hearing the information, a team of 4th Mahar Regiment CO and Imphal East District Police Additional SP rushed and inspected the area.

After a few hours, the militants again fired several rounds from Uyokching towards Thamnapokpi and Sanasabi area around 9.30 am.

Following which, 4th Mahar Regiment,119-BSF, 7th MR, Special Commando retaliated by giring towards the militants. During the shootout, a Mahar Regiment personnel sustained minor injuries. A stray bullet reportedly scratched his left arm.

There are no other reports of injuries except the same till the time of filing this report.

Sounds of Kuki militants firing 2/3 rounds at Uyokching was also heard around 3.15 pm.

However, there is no report of exchange of fire.

Meanwhile, Manipur Police DIG Range-l, N Herojit reportedly convened a meeting at Yaingangpokpi in relation to the present tense situation and discussed measures to resolve the issue at the earliest.
