Demanding rightful compensation for “affected villages”, the Affected Land Property Owner’s Committee has imposed a ban on all construction works of Tamenglong- Tousem-Halflong Mahur road from Saturday midnight.
The affected villages on Monday staged a mass rally, demanding rightful compensation. The protestors held placards and banners, shouting slogans while marching in their affected villages.
Speaking to the media persons, the Affected Land Property Owner’s Committee vice chairman Chamdan Kamei said that they are demanding their rightful compensation and Land Acquisition under the National Highway Act 48 of 1956 and the Right to fair Compensation and Transparency in Land Acquisition, Rehabilitation Resettlement Act 30 of 2013 on the ongoing construction of National Highway 137 Tamenglong - Mahur Road.
He said most of their lands have been damaged by its construction. On the Assam side, all affected villages have been awarded the compensation, then why not the seven affected villages of Manipur, he questioned.
The seven affected villages include Dailong, Inrianglong, Namtiram, Phelong, Azuram, Mandeu and Tousem village.
He further stated that the Affected Land Property Owner’s Committee is undergoing the agitation due to the construction of NH-137 without compensation and there has been no response from the government body despite several appeals and petitions.
“Without the settlement of compensation acts of NH-137, starting from zero-point Dailong to 96.879 kn Jiri River, our ongoing agitations will continue,” he added.
In the meantime, one coordinator of the construction company stated that they were given threats to stop the works, therefore, the construction works have been halted since Sunday.
