Suspected Kuki militants ambushed the reinforcement teams who were on their way to Moreh after SDPO Chingtham Anand was killed in Moreh on Tuesday morning.
Three personal escorts of IG zone 1 Themthing Ngasangva suffered bullet injuries during the ambush carried out by Kuki militants near Sinam Village, Tengnoupal district, which is 11 kms away from Pallel on Tuesday at around 3 pm.
The injured police personnels are Imphal West district head constable S Thuikhavang son of S Samuel of Kachai village, Ukhrul district. He received bullet injuries on his hand and abdomen. The second one is constable S Sekharjit son of S Priyananda Singh of Singjamei Wangma Kshetri leikai, received a bullet injury on his leg. The third one is constable L Bangkim Singh son of L Tomba Singh of Yairipok Khoirom, Thoubal District who also received a bullet injury on his leg. They are undergoing treatment at Raj Medicity after getting first aid at Jeevan Hospital, Kakching.

According to police, a security convoy led by IG zone 1 Themthing Ngasangva, DIG range 2 Jogeshchandra Haobijam, SP Kakching Vikramjit, SP Thoubal Sachidananda and additional SP operation Thoubal Wangkhomba Okramcha were on their way to Moreh at around 1.30 pm. Kuki militants fired numerous rounds of bullets from the hills towards the bullet proof vehicle of additional SP operation Wangkhomba Okramcha which was leading the convoy at around 2.50 pm, said the police.
Reports added that the teams took position after the attack and a severe gunfight erupted on both sides and continued for 45 minutes. Some of the police vehicles were destroyed from the attack.
Police stated that Thuikhavang and Sekharjit are from commando Imphal West unit and Bangkim from commando Thoubal unit presently attached with escort of IGP (Zone-I).
The injured were evacuated by helicopter to Raj Medicity for treatment.
