Manipur Unrest: Prohibitory orders issued for Thoubal district

According to the latest order issued by Thoubal District Magistrate, Ahanthem Subhash Singh on Sunday, the restrictions were placed a day ahead of the rally being organised by All Thoubal Apunba Student on Monday.

The Manipur government has imposed prohibitory orders for the whole area situated within the revenue jurisdiction of Thoubal District with immediate effect and until further order.

According to the latest order issued by Thoubal District Magistrate, Ahanthem Subhash Singh on Sunday, the restrictions were placed a day ahead of the rally being organised by All Thoubal Apunba Student on Monday.

The statement also mentioned the report by Sr Superintendent of Police, Thoubal vide letter no. 9/22(C)/2023/SP-TBL/6547 dated September 8, stating that there is an apprehension that the rally might impact the current law and order situation, posing a risk of disrupting peace and tranquillity in the district.

It prohibited assembly of five or more persons which is likely to turn unlawful and carrying of firearms, swords, sticks, stone or other lethal weapons, sharp edge articles/objects of any description which can be used as offensive weapons.

The order will not apply to the government agencies/functionaries, essential services like electricity, medical, water supply etc., and security forces involved in the maintenance of law and order, it asserted.

It further directed Sr Superintendent of Police, Thoubal, with the help of all security forces present in the district to strictly enforce the order for maintenance of law and order in the district. It warned that any person violating the order shall be punished under relevant rules.

It added that there is an emergency and circumstances do not permit due notice upon the public. The order is issued in exercise of the powers conferred under sub-section 1 of Section 163 of BNSS, 2023 and passed ex-parte under sub-section 2 of section 163 of BNSS, 2023 and is directed to the public in general, it stated.
