Manipur Unrest: Meira Paibis storm Singjamei PS, students protest against CAPF

A large group of Meira Paibis of surrounding areas of Singjamei police station on Thursday stormed the police station demanding that no CAPF will be allowed to stay in the surrounding areas under the jurisdiction of Singjamei Police Station.

About six vehicles of CAPF came to report at the Singjamei police station reportedly as a part of the security measures taken to bring back peace in Manipur.

Besides, as per an assurance by the Union Home Minister, Governor Anusuiya Uikey on Wednesday told 10 like-minded political parties that significant security changes would be witnessed in Manipur within 10 days.

In a follow-up action, the government has started the process of constructing infrastructure with pre-fabricated materials for accommodating CAPF-50 Coys at 50 different locations across 13 districts of Manipur.

The Meira Paibis, on receiving the information that some CAPF vehicles have entered Singjamei police station, stormed at the police station.

Later, the CAPF vehicles along with the jawans moved back from the police station.

One of the protestors told the media that there is no need for central forces in the Imphal area but that they need to be deployed at vulnerable areas.

It is meaningless to deploy CRPF in Kakwa area, instead the central forces should be deployed at red zone to control the situation of ongoing crisis, she added.

A similar protest was also demonstrated by the students of DM university against the CAPF stationed inside the university campus.

The protestors demonstrated with a rally along NH-2 in front of Kangla Western Gate which was blocked the rally opposite to Raj Bhavan and made them return and dispersed.
