All four people involved in snatching of four guns from a police team at Toupokpi Police Outpost at Lilong Chajing in Imphal-West district on Saturday have been arrested, police sources said.

The Manipur Police Control Room stated in a release that there was an attempt to snatch weapons from a police team at Toupokpi Police Outpost in Lilong Chajing, Imphal-West district on Saturday.

However, police were alerted and they could chase and recover all the four weapons, and one person was arrested and the car used by the miscreants was also recovered, the police said.

Raids are continuing to arrest other culprits, they added.

The police also stated that there was a report vide a release dated August 5, 2023, highlighting the looting of arms and ammunition from different police stations and armouries in the valley districts only.

The police refuted, stating that the information was misleading to the extent that arms and ammunition were looted from different police stations and armouries of both hill and valley districts.

Security forces have been continuously conducting raids in the hill and valley areas to recover the looted arms and ammunitions, the police said.

In all, 1,057 arms and 14,201 ammunitions have been recovered in the valley districts, while 138 arms and 121 ammunitions have been recovered in the hill districts till date, the police added.

The control room said that in a case of gunfight between a combined team of 5/9 GR and 21 SF with militants at village A Mungchamkom under New Keithelmanbi Police Station on Saturday evening, a cadre of non-Soo organisation was arrested and one SLR along with one magazine and 50 rounds were seized from his possession.
