A combined security force arrested an active cadre of UPPK, a faction of banned outfit PREPAK involved in extortion of huge monetary demands from the general public from Bishnupur district on Saturday.
According to police, a combined team of CDO Bishnupur led by Dy SP(CDO-1) P Sanjoy, under the overall supervision of superintendent of police Bishnupur Ksh Ravikumar rushed to Thamnapokpi area following a reliable source about the movement of some armed miscreants in and around the area, threatening local businessman, shopkeepers, school, colleges and other government institutions as well as general public to extort money.
During the search operation, the team arrested one person identified as Nameirakpam Ningthou Meitei, 42, son of (L) Nameirakpam Koireng Meitei of Khongman Basikhong, Imphal East at present staying at Khuthekpi under Moirang police station in Bishnupur district.
The arrested individual identified himself as an active cadre of UPPK involved in extortion from the general public under the command and instruction of one Tayai of the banned outfit.
Further, the team also seized the three mobile phones, one Kechaoda keypad with two airtel SIM cards, one Realme smartphone with one Jio SIM card and one Redmi smartphone with one airtel SIM card, a sum of Rs. 10,000, one Maruti Suzuki ALTO LXI silky silver colour no. MN03P 3771 along with key and one vehicle registration certificate standing in the name of Shamurailatpam Ibomcha Sharma, son of Sarat Sharma of Khanarok awang leikai in Imphal East from his possession.
The arrested person along with the seized items are handed over to Moirang Police Station for further necessary legal actions.
