Manipur: Two UG cadres apprehended

Two cadres of People’s Revolutionary Party of Kangleipak, Progressive PREPAK (PRO) were apprehended from Khongjom Papal Lamkhai, Thoubal and Top Khongnang Makhong, Imphal East.

A combined team of 16th Assam Rifles and commando unit of Thoubal on Tuesday apprehended two cadres of People’s Revolutionary Party of Kangleipak, Progressive PREPAK (PRO) from Khongjom Papal Lamkhai, Thoubal and Top Khongnang Makhong, Imphal East.

According to police, acting on a tip off about the presence of a cadre of the proscribed group PREPAK (PRO) at Khongjom area, a joint team of commando unit Thoubal and a column of 16 AR led by additional SP (Ops) Thoubal O Wangkhomba assisted by OC commando unit Thoubal inspector K Nitaranjan Singh and under the supervision of SP Thoubal Jogeshchandra Haobijam, conducted frisking and checking at around Khongjom Papal Lamkhai area.

The team apprehended one cadre of PREPAK (PRO) namely Md Sanajaoba, 25, son of late Md Siraj Ahamed from Urup Awang Leikai, Imphal East, it added. Upon questioning, Sanajaoba disclosed that he along with another PREPAK (PRO) cadre namely Oinam Amitkumar Singh, 21, son of O Khogen Singh from Top Khongnang Makhong, Imphal East carried out the IED blast at Lilong Ushoipokpi on January 5 under the instruction of PREPAK (PRO) chairman S Paliba, it informed.

It stated that the combined team also apprehended Oinam Amitkumar alias Naobi from his residence at Top Khongnang Makhong. The team seized three mobile phones and a sum of Rs 35,000 from his possession, it added.

It further stated that the apprehended individuals along with the seized items were handed over to the Lilong police station concerning their involvement in the IED blast case at Lilong Ushoipokpi Sangomshang on January 5. It also added that the police filed a case under FIR 02(01)2022 LIL PS u/s 302/307/326/34 IPC, 3/4 Explo. Subs. Act & 16/20 UA (P) Act.
