Manipur: Three arrested after open firing on police

Three occupants of a four-wheeler vehicle open fired at police personnel at a checking point near Lilong Bridge on Wednesday.

Three occupants of a four-wheeler vehicle were chased and arrested after they opened fire at police personnel at a checking point near Lilong Bridge and attempted to flee from the police team at Heirangoithong Maibam Leikai on Wednesday.

According to sources, a team of Mike 94, Toupokpi Outpost was carrying out frisking and checking near Lilong bridge around 11.15 pm on Wednesday when they tried to halt one four-wheeler vehicle (Hyundai i-20) coming from the direction of Lilong. However, the occupants of the vehicle fired rounds of gunshots and sped off from the checking point, it claimed.

It continued that the police team which included Singjamei police OC, night policing team namely Imphal West commando Y Kishorchand Meitei, and OC Lamshang police chased the vehicle and intercepted it at Heirangoithong Maibam Leikai.

The occupants of the vehicle were identified as Thokchom Gyanendra alias Benjon, 26, son of Th Munindro from Heirangoithong Maibam Leikai, Ingudam Denil, 23, son of Ingudam Tomba from Chingamakha Phuramakhong and Akash Das, 24, son of Jayenta Das from New Checkon, Dimdailong, it mentioned. On searching them, one .32 revolver with three empty cases was seized from the possession of Th Gyanendra, it added.
