In a perplexing turn of events, a combined team comprising Imphal East Additional SP, Herojit and 4-Mahar Regiment reportedly dismantled a 7th MR and Police post at Thamnapokpi under Yaingangpokpi Police Station in Imphal East district on Monday.

The said police post was set up following the demands of the villagers, in view of frequent incursions by Kuki militants at the village, sources said. The combined team reportedly arrived and dismantled the bunkers on Monday.

Speaking to the media, villagers of Thamnapokpi decried the act and termed it as ‘mindless’. They asserted that the post was set up in the village on public demand as well as to ensure safety and security of the villagers.

Mentioning the attack by Kuki militants at Shantikhongbal Loukon on Monday, in which a Tangkhul farmer was injured, the villagers questioned the safety of the MR and Police personnel, amid possible attacks looming in the area.

On the other hand, the destroyed bunkers were repaired in a swift manner on Tuesday.
Meanwhile, Kuki militants, yet again, fired several rounds and hurled 2/3 bombs at Thamnapokpi and Shantikhongbal on Tuesday.
