In a step towards promoting cleanliness and environmental sustainability, deputy commissioner, Tamenglong L Angshim Dangshawa on Tuesday officially launched the ‘Swachhata Hi Seva’ campaign at Deputy Commissioner office complex Tamenglong in Mini secretariat.
The event marked the beginning of a concerted effort to inspire citizens to take responsibility for their surroundings.
The campaign will run until October 2, coinciding with the birth anniversary of Mahatma Gandhi, who championed the principles of cleanliness and social responsibility.
The launching event was attended by district level officials, including Autonomous District Council (ADC), Tamenglong chief executive officer (CEO) Kachamthai F Gangmei, and the assistant commandant of the Central Reserve Police Force Angambou, PHED Assistant Engineer Premson T Panmei and other DLOs.
Following the launch, Angshim led a cleanliness drive within the DC office compound and along the approach road. Armed with shovels, cleavers, spades and trash bags, the officials and volunteers worked tirelessly to clear litter and debris, setting a powerful example for the community.
A significant highlight of the launch was the pledge taken by all attendees, led by Dr Angshim. Each participant vowed to keep the country neat and clean, committing to separate dry waste from wet waste and to actively engage in cleanliness efforts.
In addition to the cleanliness drive at the DC office, the team visited a developing helipad in the district to assess its cleanliness and environmental impact.
Looking ahead, the campaign will feature a major cleanliness drive on Wednesday at Rani Gaidinliu women’s Market, Tamenglong, where community members are encouraged to join local officials and volunteers in cleaning and beautifying the bustling market area. The same campaign was held at the different Government department offices.
