Manipur: Swachhata campaign flagged off

Tourism minister Oinam Lukhoi Singh assured to discuss with the CM to include the budget for the development of the religious site at Konthoujam Lairembi.

A cleanliness campaign under the theme ‘Let us join hands and make a dream village’ was flagged off at Konthoujam Lairembi, Konthoujam, Imphal West by Tourism minister Oinam Lukhoi Singh on Sunday.

This campaign is supported by North Eastern Council (NEC) under SWACHHTA Scheme and organised by the department of Tourism, government of Manipur.

Speaking at the gathering, minister O Lukhoi stressed on the importance of imbibing the concept of cleanliness by all sections of society especially from grassroots level to lead a healthy and prosperous life. He expressed that the SWACHHTA campaign was carried out in line with the vision of the Prime Minister of India Narendra Modi who led the mass movement for cleanliness to fulfil Mahatma Gandhi’s dream of a clean and hygienic India.

Lukhoi also said that cleanliness is the essential responsibility of all as a clean and healthy society will bring massive development in all sectors.

As in charge of the Tourism department, the minister further said that the department is always committed to the concept of clean surroundings with a view to attract more tourists from different parts of the world. He appealed to all to be part of this cleanliness campaign as it requires concerted efforts and asserted that such campaigns should be carried out frequently.

Minister Lukhoi assured that he will discuss with the CM to include the budget for the development of the religious site at Konthoujam Lairembi.

The function was also attended by chairman, Tourism Corporation of Manipur Limited (TCML) and Jiribam assembly constituency Md Ashab Uddin; advisor to CM/MLA Konthoujam assembly constituency, Sapam Ranjan; commissioner (Tourism), Devesh Deval; director (Tourism), Ibohal Singh and officials of the department.
